Embrace Your Crazy: Reclaiming the Battle Standard of Enthusiastic Living

Crazy is one of those words. The ones that can be slippery in meaning - a compliment from one mouth and an insult from another.  It is also one that can be effectively claimed to become a source of personal power. Let’s break it down shall we.

Crazy: 1. mentally deranged, especially as manifested in a wild or aggressive way.

2. extremely enthusiastic.

3. things that are not sensible, are foolish, or outlandish

I decided at some point in the past that the definition that I would use whenever someone referred to me as “crazy” was the positive one.

“Yes, I am very enthusiastic about this topic. Why aren’t you?” has replaced the previous full scale retreat that would occur when that word was lobbed around. Something that helped was studying the DSM IV where all the diagnostic criteria included the rule that the behavior must be a source of distress, specifically it must be a source of distress to the person exhibiting the behavior - not just to their neighbors.

Focusing on embracing and being proud of all of my various “faces”, while a work in progress, has made it so much harder to insult me and I for one love how discombobulated some people get about it.

‘You’re a bitch,” howled in response to setting healthy boundaries with immature folks.

“Woof woof mother fucker!” said as I sashay away as if I had a tail to wave like a banner.

“You’re crazy,” whined by the pygmy person left behind as I take action to pursue my dreams.

“But I’m happy and that is right for me.”  said while striding purposely forward into the sunset.

Embrace your crazy! Take it with you everywhere to add intensity and depth to your life.
